Hey this is Miranda, I would like to know how everyone feels about technology in an elementary classroom? Do you think it is an improvement for the students or not? Please explain your answer.
I think technology in the classroom is great...if it works. It seems that in the Logan County classrooms that I have observed, there is technology available to teh teacher and students....if it would work. Kids go to the computer lab and spend 20 minutes trying to log on. Teachers try to use technology but often give up because they can't get it to work when it is needed.
I believe technology is absolutely critical in a classroom! Our world revolves around technology and though yes I think students should be able to certain things without technology we still need to teach our children how to use because it is changing everyday and being familiar with it is absolutely critical.
I also think that technology is great, but like she said the technology in our area is not very advanced at all. The teachers take the students to the computer lab and let them do programs for about thirty minutes, two times a week. I don't think that the students are really using it enough to learn anything.
Thechnology in the classroom is a must because with live in a world where everything revolves around technology so if we don't expose our students to it then when do they learn? College? By then they are expected to know how to use it.
Children in grade schools should be exposed to a certain amount of technology, but not so much that they are toooooo smart. Some technology is good, but some is too much for students in grade school. Students should be exposed to the internet, but the teacher should not substitute the internet for teaching. However, if students are exposed to the internet and other technology at a young age they will not fear it when they get older.
I think that technology in the classroom is great if you know how to use it. Often to much time is spent making things look pretty and professional when more time should be spent on content of the subject being taught. I think that there is a time and a place for technology.
"Yes, I love technology. But not as much as you, you see. But I still love technology. Always and Forever. Always and Forever."
I know that reference is outdated and lame, but it fit what I am about to say.
I think technology in the classroom has opened many doors to the educators of the 21st century that were closed to our predecessors. Technology will never replace a good teacher, but it can help a good teacher become a great teacher.
I think that it is a huge improvement. It not only helps the children learn, but they will be technology literate. When I observed at Matewan Elementary, the kids loved computer lab...they did very well on the computers too. The music and pictures kept them interested and entertained. They did better on the computers than some of the teachers and technology is always going to be a part of our lives, so I think that computers are great for the kids.
If the technology is taught appropiately it can be a great learning tool. If children are taught the fundamental basics of technology systems and how it can help them in everyday life outside of a learning enviroment to provoke more learning, then it is a great thing to learn. Some kids don't even know how to turn a computer on, and the teacher assumes every child should know that, so instead of assuming such things, I believe the students should get a small basic course in computers and how they operate before being sat in front of one.
I think that technology in any classroom is a great thing, but the trick is educating not only the students, but also the teachers on how to use it. If the technology is there, but no one knows how to use it then it might as well not even be there. Also I agree with Ashley that in order for the technology to be of any help it has to work!
I agree with some and disagree on others. I disagree with being introduced to a calculator at such a young age. In many cases with math it's easy to just take the easy way out and not have very good skills with math without technology. Technology is great, but there is a time and place for it all.
I believe technology is important in the classroom, any age group. Most of us know that the first time we played with a computer it was so rewarding. I think we should show our children how these things are used to allow them to explore their imagination. Great post!
I think that technology in elementary schools is very important. I think that the technology we have in elementary schools are an improvement but I also feel that the technology could still be improved more. Our children needs to learn how to use technology because it is a big part of their future.
I feel it is important to a certain degree. I also feel it can be to a students disadvantage, it seems since computers are everywhere we have lazy children who are becoming more and more obese.
I feel that technology in the classroom is very important. It should be introduced in Pre-K. I also feel that there should be standards that all schools and teachers should be required to meet. All students should have assess to the same equipment and programs no matter what school they attend.
Yes, I think technology is a must inside our classrooms. The children need to be exposed to new technology when it advances. The school systems curriculm is changing rapidly. Technology will advanced the childrens knowledge above and beyond verses a child who rarely gets the opportunity to learn computer skills. Hopefully, every school in America has the access to technology.
I think that it branches out to different things the students will need to know, plus everything in the world has technology in it so the earlier they learn about it the better.
I think that technology in the elementary classroom is great. These children are our future and if we want them to be able to compete with the rest of the world, then alot of emphases must be put on technology in the classroom.
I think it is very important. Students have access to things so much more than when I was little. Even if they had anything we were not allowed to even touch it. It is important to their furture.
I think that introducing the younger children to technology is a good idea. This will get them better prepared and it will give them a jumpstart to the real world.
I think that in todays world we need to be using technology as much as possible. A lot of people still have a lot to learn, especially if they are older than us, most dont't try. It is important and resourceful. All schools need to use it, but they also need to know what to do if the power goes out.

In the famous words of Kip Dynomite.
